Privacy policy
Learn has no accounts, no sign-up and no advertising, and no third-party trackers. The lessons and their scripts set no cookies. This page says what our servers do record when you read it.
What we record
For each request to Learn, our servers record your full IP address, the country it is in when our network provider supplies it, the time, the site and page, whether it loaded, how long the server took to answer, a request number from our network provider, and the identification string your browser sends, which shows the browser and the kind of device. We don't record the page you came from, cookies, or any address you look up.
Each page also reports from your browser that it was opened, and, while it is open on your screen, roughly how long it has been read: the page's name and a number of seconds, nothing else. It only counts while the page is visible and you have been active in the last two minutes, so a tab left in the background isn't counted.
Lessons fetch live Bitcoin figures from satoshis.watch servers. Those requests are logged the same way and carry nothing else about you.
Kept only in your browser
If you reveal a "Check yourself" answer or press "Mark as read", your browser remembers which lessons you have read, so the course can show ticks and where to pick up. Your choice of light or dark theme is kept the same way. This stays in your browser on this device and is never sent to us. Nothing is kept until you do one of those things or change the theme, and "Clear my progress" at the bottom of any page removes your progress.
Why
To see which lessons people read and for how long, so we can improve them, and to keep the site running and protect it from abuse. Our interest in running a useful, working site is the basis for these records.
What it can and can't tell us
An IP address and a browser show roughly where a visit came from and on what kind of device, not who you are. We don't try to identify visitors, and we don't link Learn's records to satoshis.watch accounts.
How long we keep it
Records that include an IP address, including the reading-time reports, are kept for up to 90 days and then deleted.
Providers
Cloudflare delivers and protects the site under its data processing terms. It sees the same requests in order to deliver them, and it may set a cookie of its own to protect the site from abuse.
Your rights
To ask what we hold for your IP address, or to have it deleted, use the contact page and include the IP address and the dates. You can also complain to the data protection authority where you live. Changes to this page appear here with a new date. The terms of use also apply.
